What to Expect in a 1:1 Reiki session with me, at Studio 6 in Leeds.
Doing something for the first time can leave you with a lot of questions, and it’s understandable if you'd like to know as much as possible in preparation.
At our studio in Leeds, there is plenty of on street parking outside and there is also a free carpark at the back of the Mill. It sometimes gets busy but most of the time there is a space to park up. I aim to greet you at the door, after which I will guide you upstairs to the second floor studio.
The studio has a no shoes policy, so you’ll be asked to leave those at the door before you’re welcomed inside. Studio 6 is nice and bright and I’ll encourage you to take a seat so we can chat ahead of your session.
I love incense and candles so there will likely be some burning. However, I ask whether people have strong aversions to smells on my consultation form, so if this is something that you’re worried about then I can make sure I leave the incense out of the equation.
During our chat, you’ll have the opportunity to settle into the space, catch your breath and leave your day at the door. There’s no pressure to open up about what’s going on for you right now, but if you want to, it’s encouraged. This is also a great time to ask any questions you may have.
I can go into as much or as little detail about Reiki as you want - I might explain that it works on the physical, the emotion, the energetic and the spiritual bodies. And I might explain that Reiki is always for the greatest and highest good, and knows EXACTLY what we need in each moment or time, even if we don’t!
When you’re ready, I’ll encourage you to get onto the treatment bed. Reiki is a fully clothed practice, so you don’t need to do anything other than make yourself comfortable - whether that be more or less blankets, cushions, or something under your knees to support your hips and lower back. If mobility is an issue for you, we can make you somewhere to lie on the floor and, although most people lay on their backs, you can lay in whichever way you feel comfortable.
Although every Reiki session is different, I usually guide the client through a short meditation to help them to relax into the session. From here, various things might happen - I sometimes use visualisations that I will talk the client through, I sometimes use drums, rattles, other instruments and pendulums. Sometimes I may place my hands on your head, feet, legs or abdomen, sometimes I may work with my hands above the body and in your aura.
It’s important to me that my clients know that they are in charge of the healing, so if at any point something feels off, or they are uncomfortable, they have full permission to tell me so. This never happens, but I strongly feel that consent is important and I like people to know that their session is time for them to feel as comfortable as possible.
During the treatment, you might experience sensations in your body, colours behind your eyes, visualisations of things, people and places. Or nothing at all. You may feel the heat from my hands, or temperature changes in your body, you may also experience emotions. Everything is welcome, and it can be different every single time you have Reiki.
When the session is coming to a close, I will smooth down your energy field with smoke or spray to clear anything that’s still lingering, before I gently bring you round with my voice, and get you some water.
There is never any pressure to share your experience, however, I’m always delighted to hear how people found their healing, before they float off into the rest of their day.
If a 1:1 session isn’t your thing, there are a few other Reiki events that you can cut your teeth on - check out the Eventbrite listings for Studio 6 in Leeds, to see if any take your fancy. Otherwise, reach out if you have any specific questions.
