We’re not sheep… we’re people.

I’m not long back from an amazing visit in Edinburgh with my love 💕

He’s working locally, so I thought I’d swing by and see him for the weekend… I hadn’t fully realised that the Fringe was on. But oh my, what a pleasant surprise!!

So while I’ve been soaking up all the death-related stand up and theatre performances I can find (obvs!), I’ve also been navigating life in a busy city. As someone who’s more than a little bit sensitive, this is no easy task. However, it’s as though Edinburgh’s been made for someone like me and there’s loads of little side streets and courtyards to step into, catch my breath and prepare myself for the onslaught of the busy streets full of buskers, ticket touts, tourists and bagpipes.

One thing I’ve really noticed in the busyness, is how easily people are swayed and manipulated.

I’ve watched thousands of people walking in lines, just like sheep, because that’s what everyone else is doing. Completely unaware of their surroundings and literally just following the crowd. I stood in a queue for the toilet, only to get to the front and realise that loads of stalls were empty, but nobody had thought to check them. They were queuing because everyone else was. It’s like those silly experiments you see where someone does something stupid in a lift or waiting room, and everyone just follows because they don’t want to be the odd one out.

It really got me thinking about how much of a free thinker I am, and whether this independence has been developed as a result of my spiritual path or whether my spiritual path has been the thing that’s led me to independent thinking.

Which came first? The chicken or the egg?

Who knows.

Truth is, it’s all intertwined, in the same way everything else is. I’ve spoken before about how much Reiki has changed my life but in ways that I can’t quite pinpoint - and many of my clients and students say exactly the same. If you’d like to see whether it makes a difference for yourself, I’d love you to come and have a Reiki session, or do your Reiki training with me at my studio in Leeds.

End result = I don’t suppose it really matters whether my independent thought led me to Reiki or whether Reiki led me to think differently. I’m just glad that I have the ability to go my own way sometimes. I reckon it’s important to know when to follow the crowd and when to be an independent thinker. How much different would the world look if people made up their own minds instead of swallowing everything we’re fed!?

I think it’s safe to say that most of us carry a bit of baggage…
