Soundbaths seem to be all the rage at the moment. We’re really lucky that there are loads of sound healing sessions available in West Yorkshire, and especially in Leeds. But with so many different options, it can be hard to choose what’s right for you. Let me help you out a little…

What is the difference between a soundbath, sound meditation and sound healing?

Soundbath, sound healing session, sound meditation and sound healing class - it’s all pretty much the same thing - you lay down while a sound practitioner creates sounds and vibrations that help you to relax and recuperate. Some practitioners might run sessions to work with a specific intention, some may involve more of a meditation - they’re all slightly different but all these terms pretty much refer to a similar kind of thing.

How do soundbaths and sound healings work?

Soundbaths and sound healings work by influencing brainwave states. As you listen to soothing tones, your brain can shift from a busy beta state (alert, focused) into slower waves like alpha (relaxed) or even theta (meditative, dreamlike). This is similar to the restorative state experienced in deep meditation or just before sleep. Sound good?

What is a soundbath good for?

Soundbaths help us relax so they can be beneficial for all stress and anxiety related issues and conditions.

Soundbaths can support burnout and overwhelm by helping us to rest and restore.

Soundbaths can help us regulate our emotional state and can open the doorway to increased self awareness.

Soundbaths are a really good way to help busy minds switch off and can feel a lot more accessible to people than sitting in a lengthy meditation session - the sound distracts the thinking brain which allows the body to get on with resting.

Soundbaths are safe for most people (although caution is advised for early pregnancy, anyone with a pacemaker or those with epilepsy) and they are completely accessible - no experience or special clothing is required.
What is used in a soundbath or soundhealing?

Instruments used can include gongs, crystal singing bowls, Himalayan singing bowls, chimes, rain sticks, rattles, voices and drums.
What happens at a Studio 6 soundbath with me?

You’ll be invited to lie down and get cosy while you’re guided through a meditation. Sometimes this will be a visualisation, sometimes it will be focused on your breath. Once you’re nice and relaxed, the sound session will start and you’ll drift off to wherever the vibrations take you. Towards the end, there will be a few moments of silence while the sound waves settle, and then you’ll be guided, by voice, to gently wake up.

What makes a ‘Studio 6, Leeds’ soundbath so special?

I do! Only joking…

It’s really important when choosing any kind of activity, workshop or class, that you choose something that resonates deeply with you - whether that be the setting in which it’s taking place, the person facilitating or the types of instruments that are going to be used. Personally, I don’t go heavy on the gongs, which makes Studio 6 soundbaths good for those who experience tinnitus or are generally a bit more sensitive to sound.

Follow your heart - it knows the way.

There are also a few other things that make Studio 6 soundbaths so great!

  • We’re not far from Leeds City Centre which makes us really accessible

  • There is free parking

  • The studio has everything you need - no need to bring your own gear pillows, mats and blankets.

  • The studio has comfy mattress beds - no laying on cold hard floors while you’re at Studio 6 (unless you want to, of course!)

  • Plenty of cosy, colourful and warm handmade blankets to wrap yourself up in

  • If it’s cold, you’ll get a hot water bottle to snuggle

There are a several soundbaths a month at Studio 6 - some involve a longer meditation, some involve receiving Reiki at the same time as sound, some are themed. Some are cheaper than others and some have two facilitators. You can check dates, times and prices here, or you can contact me for more info.
