Reflections on Summer Solstice

The Summer Solstice marks the highest point of Summer and the longest day of the year. The day with the most sunlight which means a very early sunrise and a very late sunset.

This year, the weather in the UK has been absolutely magnificent!

At this time of year, the sunrise and sunset times hold for a few days, before gradually starting to become later and earlier. Meaning we can enjoy those shorter nights and longer days before the cycle begins all over again, and we slowly start to move towards the next season.

During Solstice, many people aim to bring more light into their lives. However, I’d like to encourage you to let the extra light from the sun help to illuminate what is already there.

An invitation to see yourself more clearly.

In this week’s newsletter I talked about the stories we tell ourselves and how sometimes they can be outdated. Perhaps they belong to old versions of ourselves or perhaps they belong to other people entirely.

These stories often become the lens through which we see the world, and ourselves…

‘I’m too much’

‘I’m not enough’

‘I’m behind’

‘I should be doing more’

‘I should have this figured out by now’

‘It’s my fault’

‘I’m no good at XYZ’

‘I can’t…’

‘I’m too busy to rest’

‘It’s too late’

And that can hold us back.

Considering these statements, think about where in your life they apply and whether those stories are being influenced by your opinion, and what matters to you, or by something else entirely.

  • What story have I repeated about myself so often that I now mistake it for fact?

  • What evidence already exists that this story isn’t entirely factual?

  • Has this story tried to protect me?

  • Has this story held me back?

  • If I dug deeper, and trusted myself, what would the new story be?

I hope you find these explorations helpful  💜

May the light of the Solstice encourage you to grow and bloom into the version of you that you want and deserve to be. And remember, just as the light softens after the Solstice, so can we.

We are not meant to burn bright all the time ☀️
